Do you do any clinics on trouble horses and colts? Both my co-worker and I each have an unbroke horse and a trouble horse. While the riding clinic would improve our skills we don't know that it would address our actual problems.
For instance, she has a 6 year old gelding who has already spent 30 days at a trainers. When she tries to work him in the round pen he charges her. When they get on him and ask him to do anything he runs backwards and sometimes flips over on them.
Like I said, I have a 19 month old filly that I am just starting. I also have an 8 year old gelding that I got when he was 15 months old and trained but I am now having some problems with him. After all these years he has started pitching with me when I try to canter him. He had never done that before until this year. I am wondering if I might be the problem. I have never been a good rider (even though I have been riding since I was 4). Both of my sisters are terrified of horses but they are good riders. I was always the one that would jump on anything with 4 holves and hair but I have never been a "natural rider". I had both of my eardrums busted when I was little and so I have never had good balance. I learned to ride the hard way and therefore I have never been good in the saddle. This year I had an ear surgery where they completely rebuilt my eardrum and now I am having to learn a whole new balance. I am wondering if my balance change is what has caused him to suddenly start bucking with me when we canter?
I am also having trouble with the 8 year old and his ears. I have had this trouble since he was 2 but now it is escalated to being dangerous. When he was 2 he got a bunch of ticks way down in his ear. A friend of mine spent about an hour trying to dig them out which caused the horse to be very upset. I ended up taking him to the vet and they sedated him and spent another hour digging in his ears. After that he would never let me touch his ears. I have to unhook his bridle and put it around his ears instead of pulling it over. He won't let me spray them with fly spray either. When I tie his head down to spray him he has started sitting down until he breaks the post, halter, or rope. Once he even did it until he almost passed out before the rope snapped. I am scared he is going to hurt himself or possibly me.
Do you do clinics for problems such as these???? Do you think one of your riding clinics could help me relearn to ride? As far as balance I really feel like I am starting all over again. I am very bouncing and have to grab the saddle horn all the time.
I would be more than happy to help get a clinic together down here. Are you thinking around April? I will start talking to some people and see if I can find 6 people who will ride. I will also talk to some of the people about arenas around here and see what kind of price and schedule we are talking. I would do it at my house but I don't have an arena or round pen. I just have 19 acres of pasture.
