"Do you have ANY literature or information concerning how to get a horse to stop bucking?"

Dear Keith...

Do you have ANY literature or information concerning how to get a horse to stop bucking. The horse I have is 5 year old gelding, and has learned that he can easily get me off. He bucks violently, and as much as I have tried he will not quit until I am off. Doesn't happen all of the time but comes out of the blue.

While I'm sure you understand that I can't advice via a simple email for a horse I’ve never seen, I can suggest that you go to this page on my site: http://www.horsemanship101.com/Horse-Training-Tools/index1001.html. It lists over 200 training topics. Simply find a topic related to your situation and the link will bring you to a list of relevant books, video, audio tapes. It will also link you to free articles, when they're available. Note that some topics (like “biting”) haven’t been addressed yet. They someday will be – but right not most of our articles mirror our riding clinics.
You might also look for a John Lyons trainer in your area. A list of trainers can be found here: http://horsemanship101.com/John-Lyons-Trainer-Links/John-Lyons-Trainers-US.html.
You can find a list of our upcoming clinics here on my site:

Keith: Thank you. The links you sent me may be helpful. I have a set of John Lyons tapes and have spent a few hours watching them.
Would REALLY like to attend a session if you are ever near Salt Lake.
I can't thank you enough for the response. I'm sure that I am doing something wrong. I will seek a good trainer if that's what it takes. I don't want to part with my horse. I rode him all summer long last year with just one bucking episode as well as thru the winter into early spring. I am confused because in the last 2 weeks I've been thrown twice, and it comes out of nowhere.

Suggested Article: "Ready for Your Next Spook?"
"It's not a matter of "if" your horse spooks, it's "when." It's not a matter of how broke your horse is. Sooner or later it will see something that makes it spook. You can't control your environment so you can't blame your environment. If...

Suggested Article: "Good Now Bad Later"
Every time you teach an exercise, your horse will go through the same learning cycle. He'll go from "Bad" to "Good" to "Worse" to "Not So Bad" to "Learned." That's the typical cycle: Bad. Good. Worse. Not so bad. Learned.
