"He has bad manners and is shy when approaching him with the bit"

Dear Keith...

Monday, November 28, 2005

I have a 3yr old registered paint qtr. horse. he has been made a pet but neck reign's good and rides good (trail only). He has bad manners and is shy when approaching him with the bit and head stall, backing up and raising his head up to get away from the bit. We have to feed him and or work with him until we after hard work get the bit in his mouth, mostly by luck it seems. After the bit is in his mouth he is perfect. He has been worked 5 days a week for 5-6 weeks by a young horseman. I called him to ask him about the issue stated above and did not get a response from him. Can you give me some adivce about how to handle this very frustrating deal with the bit? Other than that I think he will make a trail-riding horse. He is rode only once per week at present, but I am willing to work with some evenings after work.
