"He gets scared or something, bolts and there is NO STOPPING HIM"

Dear Keith...
Friday, November 3, 2006
I have a gorgeous grey gelding, welsh/halflinger cross, 8yrs. I bought him green. He has wonderful ground manners, needs more exposure and desensitizing. He has been riden at the walk, trot, halt, and back fine. Then one second, he gets scared or something and fear bolts. There is NO STOPPING HIM when he does it. I really don't want to send him off to auction, and I won't sell him to someone that plans on putting a child on his back. I have really bonded with him and want to see him at his best. He is big enough for an adult to ride he is stocky.
Do you train individual horses? What is the charge?
Please help me, I really want him to be a keeper! |

Suggested Article: "Hurry Up and Stop"
"Have you ever trained your dog to sit? What did you say to your dog after you told it to sit? You probably told it to "stay." Why did you do that? If the dog sits, he has to stay. In the same respect, I don't have a "stop" on my horse. I only...

Suggested Article: "Slowing Your Horse"
"To help slow my horse, I hum. I hum because it naturally changes my seat. So when I'm practicing loping, and my horse is going faster than I want, then I sit down and I count or hum. So, I'll pick up speed and I'll say go faster, then I'll sit...
