Please note: The pdf document cannot be viewed in your AOL window. You can view the file using a browser such as Internet Explorer, but it's easiest to simply download the file. (To save the file, PC users: right click the link, choose the command that will save the file (ie "save target/link/file as"), mac users: ctl-click and choose "download to disk" or the equivalent to save the file.)

Trouble Downloading the Document (Course or Article)
If you are having trouble receiving a downloadable file, follow this checklist:

First, trust me: These files are downloaded frequently by folks who do so smoothly and quickly. The odds are HUGE that there's actually something funky happening on your side, either in your computer or by your service provider. I'm more than happy to help folks through this process - but don't send me nasty notes - I balk at nasty and don't spend my days figuring out how to rip people off for $4.99.

1) About five minutes after completing your purchase, you should automatically receive an email from us which begins "Hello, (your name) Thank you for your purchase at Horsemanship101.com!" Did you receive this email?

"No, I did not receive the email." (If you did, scroll down)

The email is sent out automatically by a computer. If you did not receive it, then it was because of one of the following reasons:

a) Sometimes the email gets tied up for a few minutes on it's way to you. Simply put, there's a backlog somewhere between your computer and mine because everybody's online at the same time. It usually takes five minutes to receive the email, but when internet traffic is heavy, it can take half an hour or more. This can be especially true if you work at a large company because large companies can automatically assign priorities to incoming emails when traffic is high. The fix here is to simply wait a few more minutes. I worked at a large company where emails would actually show up the next day.

b) Is there any chance that you might have used two different email accounts? That is, did you use one email address to make your purchase but now you're looking at another account for the email—? Obviously, you simply need to be sure to check the same account. (Like a personal "yahoo" account vs. your work address.)

c) You entered your email address incorrectly when you made your purchase. Oops. If you believe this might be the case, send an email to me: explaining the situation and I'll generate and send links to your proper address.

d) Either you, your internet service provider or the company you work for is blocking certain emails. This is an easy fix, but the delivery of your emails is completely beyond my control. Check your junk folder for the email address; try turning off your security (like Norton) temporarily or check your computer settings to see if they aren't set to block certain incoming emails. If you believe this might be the case, send an email to me: . I'll be able to respond to that and will send a secondary link for you to use. Again, if you work at a large company or the government, they have been known to block emails that they see as spam (based on certain words or other factors contained within incoming emails) - so emails can be blocked before they ever hit your computer.

e) If you did not receive any email from me and I have not described your situation above, or to request further help, send an email to me: . Please include as much of the following as you can: Your full name, date of purchase, email address used if different, products purchased and the transaction ID. (The transaction ID will be included in the email that contains the link.)

"Yes, I did receive the email."

If you did receive the email and clicked on the link, you should be brought to a page with a bold headline that says "Thanks for your purchase!" You'll find a link (in orange type) at the top right of the page that says "Please click here to download..." Click on that link. A pop up window will ask you if you want to Open or Save the file. Choose Save and save it to some place you know you can find later. If you're not familiar with computers, save it to your "desktop" because that's the easiest place to find it later. After you save it, of course, you can print it out anytime you please.

Remember, links are only good for three days (from purchase) or three downloads, whichever comes first. You should only need one download. SAVE THE FILE TO YOUR COMPUTER IMMEDIATELY SO YOU CAN PRINT IT OUT AT YOUR LEISURE.

a) If you did receive an email, but also got a message that begins "Please check your email for further instructions about your product(s)..." this happens because something you did during your purchase "tripped a wire" at PayPal that caused them to halt your purchase long enough for a human to look it over and make sure everything's okay. (It's for your protection, but confusing because the email you'll receive has nothing to do with the actual cause. Again this is beyond my control.) While most transactions are handled completely automatically by computers, something has caused the system to pause while a human looks into your sale. If this happens, you have two choices: One, wait some time (sometimes as long as 24 hours) and try again (that is, click to download the file) — or two, send an email to me: and I can email you the links you'll need to receive your file directly.

b) If you got the email, clicked on the link, and chose "Save As" but now you can't find the file or don't think you even received the file: Then YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE FILE - you just don't think you did or you can't find it.

This is like buying a pair of shoes at Walmart, then forgetting where you left them. You have the product you paid for, you (okay, your computer) just misplaced it. Nothing is broken. As stated, you have three downloads before your links expire. The fix is this: If you use Internet Explorer, download the file once more - but be conscious of where you place the file. Again, if you're not "a computer person," you'll find it easiest to save it to your "Desktop" (the screen you see when the computer's on but programs aren't running). You'll find a button on the left side of the pop up window allowing you to save something there.

If you are using Firefox or some of the other browsers, your computer will simply download the file (after you choose "save to disk") without giving you a choice as to where to place the file. It's confusing, because it doesn't feel like anything happened. You should do some sleuthing and figure out where you your particular computer is set to automatically place downloaded files. For instance, if you are using Firefox, you should download and choose "Save to disk," then afterwards, look under "Tools > Downloads" to find your new file. You can then select "open" in the resulting pop up window to open the file, then save the file somewhere simpler for you to find later.

c) If you got the email and clicked on "Open" and you don't see the file: Are you using an internet service provider like AOL, CompuServe, or EarthLink? Connect to your account, minimize the browser and launch another browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Opera. Right click on the link (to the PDF document) and choose "Save Target As," saving the document to your computer.

d) You got an email - but also got a message that your links have expired. Scoll down for further info.

If you email me, please include as much of the following as you can: Your full name, date of purchase, email address used if different, products purchased and the transaction ID. (The transaction ID will be included in the email that contains the link.)

I Paid for It; I Downloaded It — But Now I Can't Find It (Finding Your Downloaded File)
What if you can't remember where you saved your downloaded file — or you just can't find it?

If you believe you've downloaded the file but now can't find it, scroll up on this page to where it says "Yes, I Did Receive the Email" and read paragraph "b" for some tips. Then return to this section for more help.

If you are on a PC/Windows-based machine, the file is probably in one of two places: on the desktop or in a folder called "My Documents." The Macintosh default is to save files to the desktop, but if the preferences relating to file saving have been altered from the default, the file could be anywhere on the computer; keep reading for help in that case.

If you are using AOL, your file may be in the ‘Download Manager’ folder, or ‘My Downloads’ or something similar. To move it, select the file, right click choose COPY....go to where you want it to be and right click on a blank spot....choose PASTE. You can also use the Windows ‘Find Files or Folders’ function to find files. Go to the Start button, click, choose Find (or Search), then, Files or Folders and type in what you guess to be the first part of the file name.

If you still can't find the file:
If you purchased the file within the last 3-5 days, return to the receipt you would have received from PayPal or Google (via email) to see what the file is named (that is, the article or course title), which will help you locate it on your computer. You can use a single "unusual" word from that title (like "buck" if you purchased "Stop Bucking") to search your computer for the file. Alternatively, you can search your computer for all files ending in ".pdf" using one of these methods:

If you're using Windows:
• Click on the "Start" button in the lower, right corner of your screen
• Click "Search" or "Find"
• Click on "All files and folders" (left side of window)
• Enter the word you're using to search (like "buck") under where it says "All or part of the file name." Alternatively, you can enter ".pdf" to find all pdf files
• Click on "Search"
• Highlight and click (or double-click if necessary) on the correct title to open
• Tip: Using a word like "buck" will bring up fewer results then ".pdf"
• Depending on the size of your computer, this can take from five to fifteen minutes

If you're using a Mac:
• Open "Sherlock."
• For "Find" type in: ".pdf".
• Click on the Search icon.
• Highlight and double-click the correct title to open.

Once you've found the file, it would be a good idea to save it to an area on your computer where you can more easily find it the next time.

If you still can't find the file, try downloading it again. Maybe it didn't really download the first time.

And if all else fails, send an email to me: . Include your date of purchase the product(s) you purchased and the email address used to make your purchase.

How to Open the File
Locate the file on your computer and then simply double-click it. The file will then open up in Adobe Reader at which point you will be able to navigate through the pages and print.

Internet Explorer Users: If you have Acrobat Reader installed, and are using Internet Explorer browser, you may have trouble displaying large PDF documents directly from the web. If any PDF link displays only a blank screen when clicked, right-click on the link (click and hold on a Macintosh), and save the file to your hard drive. Then open the PDF file in Acrobat from your hard drive.

If you are experiencing problems viewing or downloading our PDF files, you may also try:
- Decrease your browser security settings to “Medium”. (Go to, Tools > Options > Security)
- You may have MORE than ONE version of Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Delete them both and re-install the latest version. You can get this software for free at Adobe.com on this page: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. If you have trouble installing or using Acrobat Reader, please visit the Adobe support page.
- You may see a blank page when you try to view a PDF file after clicking on a link to a PDF file. This problem occurs when Adobe Acrobat Reader opens inside of your browser window rather than as a separate application. Try saving the file to your computer (right click, "save target as") then open the file.
- You may also see a blank window because the PDF document isn't fully loaded. The PDF must fully downloaded before you can view it. So if you have a slow connection or the server is very busy or the PDF is very large, simply give it some more time.
- Sometimes the screen may even say "done" when it isn't. The files can be very large and take awhile for each to be saved to your hard drive.
- AOL users, please use Internet Explorer browser to download your files and NOT the AOL browser.
- Check to see if the document has opened in a different window. Try minimizing your open programs one-by-one, in case the file is open where you can't see it.
- Refresh the window you are viewing.
- Open file in another web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)

I Have the File - but It Won't Open Properly

Do not try to open the file from within Microsoft Word or some other program. The file is in the "PDF" format and must be opened with the application "Adobe Reader." That program is free and already exists on most computers.

All you have to do is double click the file on your computer and it should automatically open for you to print. If you double click the file and it doesn't open - you've got issues with your copy of Reader.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ADOBE READER, OR NEED TO UPDATE YOUR COPY, go to:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. It's easy - and free. If you have trouble installing or using Acrobat Reader, please visit the Adobe support page.

Printing Issues

Print the PDF document as you would any other document - but if that doesn't seem to be working:

If you can open and view the PDF file, but can't print, try printing again after making this change: File > Print > Advanced > check the "Print As Image"

If you are able to print, but the page prints slightly smaller in size than expected, try changing the following: File > Print, and make sure that the "Shrink Oversized Pages to Paper Size" option (Acrobat 5) or the "Fit To Page" option (Acrobat 4) in the Print dialog box is NOT checked. IF YOU DO NOT SEE THOSE SETTINGS, set the dropdown box (next to "Page Scaling") to "none" or make an equivalent change

TROUBLESHOOTING PRINTING: Please go to the following link for a more extensive support on printing issues: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/150d6.htm

Downloads Have Expired

Due to the nature of the files, all downloads have a "life expectancy" of 3-5 days, depending on the file you're accessing. There is also a limit as to how many times they can be downloaded, usually three. Afterwards, your file may not be accessed using the initial links provided. For this reason, you'll need to save the document to your computer right away. Of course after that, you can read it or print it out anytime.

If you need an extension, (if your links are no longer working) simply send me an email. Please include the transaction number (found on your initial email), your name, the date purchased and the location of your purchase (that is, did you buy it on horsemanship101.com or eBay?).

To request an extension or requst further help, send an email to me: .

The Links in the Email Don't Work

Yes, actually they do. But...

Many email applications will automatically turn off links in incoming emails. So, clicking on them won't bring up a web page. Also, links can work in one email from one person and then not work from the next person. Or, they'll work in the first, third and fifth email I send you, but not in the second and third. There are a thousand variations of this, no rhyme or reason. The bottom line is that if none of the links in the initial email work, (the one that begins "Hello, Your Name Thank you for your purchase...") then you need to cut and paste them into your browser's window. Make sure that you include the entire link, with no extra spaces or characters.

To request an extension or requst further help, send an email to me: .
