"The leverage (or shanked) bit doesn't give me any more control than any other bit. If I have to pull 5 pounds to stop my horse on that bit, I still have to put 5 pounds on this bit. Except I'm only pulling about a pound's worth, because a pound from me feels like ten down there because of the leverage this bit creates. It makes me feel like I have more control. It makes me feel like the horse is softer and more responsive, but pretty soon the horse will start pulling on this bit, if I allow him to, just like he does on the snaffle bit.

"A leverage bit will allow me to teach him to keep his head straight and break at the poll – but that's about all I'm going to be doing. I do use a leverage bit, if I want to work on keeping horse's head in position or to keep him square between the reins. But while the bit might be keeping his head correct, it's my body, my seat that's telling him where to go. For instance, if I were riding toward you and I tell the horse to take his hips to the left and his shoulders to the right or the left, then it's my body that's telling the horse how to move, not the bit. The bit is just keeping him "in frame."

At that time you will be charged the fee necessary to ship within the U.S. I will then send you an email advising you of any additional fees necessary to cover postage and/or insurance. You can then safely and easily pay the balance due online anytime on this page: Horsemanship101.com/Payments. If you feel the additional amount is too much, I will post a 100% refund immediately. Naturally, I will hold off on shipment until the additional amount due is received. close

Why Do We Use PayPal? For your protection and peace of mind, we use PayPal as our payment processor. Paypal is owned by eBay and is a known, trusted, and secure service. You do not need a Paypal account if you pay by credit card. close

You can purchase online using your checking account or a charge card like VISA. Both methods are very simple:

To purchase an item, click "Add To Cart." After that you can look at other products or pages on my site. When you're ready to complete your purchase click on the "View Cart" button on any product page. You can also use it to change quantities. You will be given an opportunity during this process to pay via your checking account or with VISA.

We use PayPal to handle our online transactions. (Why?) But, you DO NOT NEED a PayPal account to make a payment using a charge card. When it asks you to sign in, ignore that and look down the page. You'll find a link (it says "Continue") which allows you to continue without creating an account using your charge card.

You do need an account to pay by check (or "echeck"). To pay by check either sign in to your PayPal account (on the page mentioned above) or go to PayPal.com and follow the simple process to create an account. (You'll find a button at the top of their page marked "Sign Up Now.") Note that signing up to pay by check will take a few days as PayPal verifies your account. Also note that PayPal will not allow me to send any products until your check clears (usually in about 5-6 days).
