The full cheek snaffle is the only bit you need for your horse while using the methods of John Lyons. This is the same bit John uses himself everyday.

To say that a horse has a hard mouth is absurd. The toughest mouthed horse will feel the lightest touch possible on his mouth. If the horse can feel your finger pressed lightly against his mouth, he will surely feel a forty-pound pull against a bit.

So, if we have a tough-mouthed horse, we must realize that we need to reeducate his brain, not his mouth. It allows the horse to easily adjust to the bit, promotes more direct head control, made of quality stainless steel, equalizes mouth pressure and needs no curb chain.

The bit is the most important line of communication with your horse. This Full Cheek Snaffle is mild and promotes direct head control by virtue of its design.

To make and keep your horse light and willing, you want to use the mildest bit possible. This bit is gentle and does not pull through at the corner of a horse’s mouth, but instead equalizes the pressure. The mouth does not become sore and the snaffle allows for flexion. The extended metal pieces on either end preclude the need of a leather curb strap in most riding instances. However, trainers working with younger, more inexperienced horses (horses who tend to open or "gap" their mouthes), may want to use a curb strap.

The bit is 5 inches (no other sizes available) and works for the average horse.
